CONNIFF VS. BRAUDIS
January 4, 2008
In one of my favorite movie moments in “Braveheart”, Mel Gibson, as William Wallace, gets ready to lead his band of men, who face insurmountable odds, into battle, Gibson gets ready to ride off to first talk with the enemy. Just before he takes off, his second in command says, “Where are you going?” His reply, “I’m going to pick a fight.”
Now, I’m going to pick a fight.
Michael, what’s with you and Sheriff Braudis? I mean, what’s the real problem? Is the problem that you was never invited over to have a drink, or take a hit with Hunter Thompson, or Johnny Depp?
Besides analyzing the conservative movement, and talking about Iraq (and who can’t get enough of Iraq), KNFO radio host Michael Conniff seems to be obsessed with Pitkin County Sheriff, Bob Braudis, his favorite local topic.
According to Conniff, “The Sheriff is, of course, enamored of those who break the law.” Saying it is one thing, the first amendment and all, but does he really think, Braudis is “enamored” with those that break the law.” Add this statement to the mix, “the Sheriff’s enablers, and they are legion (at least he has a legion), will counter categorically he is an ultra-cool dude, the very paradigm of community law enforcement, as Braudis likes to call his non-existent beat.” Sheriff Bob is an easy target because he is outspoken about his views on legalizing some drugs. Michael, anytime you want to debate Braudis, I’m your man.
I’m not a drug guy, but I am the first to admit “Just Say No” was as big a flop as “No Child Left Behind”. What I find interesting is, that it is always the kids that government waves their flag around, but the truth is the drug wars are a joke, and education is in the toilet in most inner cities.
But, is that Bob’s fault? Aspen Post blogger, Pete, had this to say “We wonder why our children get started on the wrong foot and spend their lives recovering from drug abuse and other complications.” Hey, Pete, sure it’s Bob’s fault. If it wasn’t for Bob none of the kids in the valley would ever take a drink or smoke a joint. Parenting, or the lack of it, has nothing to do with the problem. Taking responsibility isn’t easy. But, it is the right thing to do. Then again, why take any responsibility, when you can blame someone else?
Here’s an idea, instead of blaming Braudis, why not blame Johnny Depp? After all, he did
play Hunter Thompson in a movie?
