Where did you grow up?
Groves, Texas, oil refining capital of the world, A real armpit.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Baseball player. Did not have quite the speed or arm strength. A catcher by trade, but left handed, so at West Point I played the outfield.
What do you do for a living?
Real Estate developer.
How would you describe your work style?
Decentralized, very consensus oriented, team player.
If you were at a business lunch and you ordered a rare steak and they brought it to you well done, what would you do?
Apologize ten ways to Sunday, but then ask the waitress or waiter to do it again.
Biggest obstacle you have ever had to overcome in your career?
Decision to leave the military, as I was trained to stay in it from the day I enlisted.
List three words that describe your character.
Solid. Trusting. Trustworthy.
What are three positive character traits you don't have?
I’ll stay with personality traits if I may. I am not very organized. I tend to procrastinate. I don’t acknowledge or show gratitude to my close ones, my family, enough.
What do you do for yourself to stay mentally healthy?
I run a lot of numbers in my head. I like the economics of things. I am a numbers person, more right brain.
What is your favorite thing to do?
Golf. I have a passion.
What is the one thing you do best?
I am not a technician. What I do the best is see the best in people and things. I try to accentuate the positive.
If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?
My looks. That’s a hard one.
What inspires you other than money?
Accomplishment. Achievement. Taking on a problem and achieving something other might not have been able.
Best decision you ever made?
Marrying my wife, Margaret.
Worst decision you ever made?
Selling a 1977 International Scout that I loved and adored.
Tell me something people do not know about you?
How rural my upbringing was.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
We would give a large chunk away. I do not believe money can buy you happiness. We would achieve more happiness by sharing it.
What is your favorite waste of time?
Watching ESPN.
Do you have a favorite catch phrase?
“Good to go”.
What would you like on your tombstone?
He Tried.
Why is there fuzz on a tennis ball?
